Sumner was raised on a hill in rural New Hampshire. He has studied at Rockport College, The Maine Photographic Workshops and has a BFA from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. He shoots with antique, plastic, Polaroid, and large format cameras - most notably his baby, a magnificent 8x10 Deardorff. Since 2002 he has lived and worked in New York City.
